Ist Ambra verboten?
Ambra entsteht in Form von steinigen Brocken in den Därmen von Pottwalen. Durch seinen speziellen Ursprung war die Gewinnung von Ambra früher sehr aufwendig. Heute stehen Pottwale wie viele andere Walarten unter Artenschutz. Sie zu jagen ist also nach internationalem Gesetz verboten.
Warum ist Walkotze wertvoll?

Wie finde ich Ambra?
Ambra wird auf dem Meer treibend in Klumpen von meist bis zu 10 Kilogramm gefunden, in Einzelfällen aber auch über 100 Kilogramm. Diese Ambra-Klumpen können über Jahre bis Jahrzehnte durch die Meere treiben und finden sich als Strandgut an Küsten.
Warum Ambra in Parfum?
Die größte Bedeutung erlangte sie als Rohstoff für die Parfumherstellung. Als sogenannter Fixateur verlangsamt sie die Verdunstung leicht flüchtiger ätherischer Öle, die meist aus Pflanzen gewonnen werden. Heute wird Ambra nur noch in wenigen exklusiven Parfums verwendet.

How do they kill whales in whaling?
Using exploding harpoon cannons mounted on the bows of vessels, whales are pursued and shot with explosives designed to burst when they penetrate into the flesh of the whale. However, not all whales die instantaneously, requiring a second shot from the cannon, or sometimes a round of rifle fire.
