Das Verbreitungsgebiet des Großen Pandas erstreckte sich früher von Peking im Norden bis Ost-China und nach Süden bis ins heutige Myanmar und Vietnam. Heute finden wir die letzten Tiere in einem halben Dutzend voneinander isolierter Bergregionen im Südwesten Chinas in den Provinzen Sichuan, Shaanxi und Gansu.
